Edible Landscaping Workshop in Montague

Peter Bane and Keith Johnson, renowned Permaculture experts, speakers and authors, will be presenting an Edible Landscaping Workshop at the Montague United Methodist Church (MUMC) on Saturday and Sunday, May 3 and 4. They will be teaching us basic design principals for planning a landscape that will be beneficial to our native insects, birds and other wildlife (and also humans). We as participants will be creating landscape designs for the MUMC property while learning design skills applicable to our own homes or other properties.

This workshop will be limited to 30 participants. There has already been a great deal of interest in this workshop and we are expecting that it will fill up, so we encourage you to register soon to reserve your spot. The workshop fee of $200 includes all sessions on Saturday and Sunday, plus lunches and snacks. The schedule is as follows:

11:30-12:30 Patterns in Design; the Cultivated Ecosystem
1:30 – 2:30 Observation of the site, Gathering information, group Analysis
2:45 – 3:45 Team organization and Generating Vision
4:00-5:00 The Forest Garden; Perennial Edible Ecosystems: principles and patterns
11:00-11:30 Gathering and Review
11:30-12:30 Plant Guilds and Functions
1:30-2:30 Teams develop plant palettes and system connections
2:45-3:45 The Design Unfolding: Stages and Limiting Factors; Maintenance and Mgmt. Further Yields.
3:45-4pm Wrap-up and Evaluation
