Food Forest Design Charette

February 21, 2014 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Gibbs House Design Sketch

A design charette at WMU’s Office for Sustainability regarding the food forest and permaculture design we are putting in at the Gibbs House property out at the Business and Technology Research Park.  The meeting is Friday, Feb. 21 from 5pm to 6:30, snacks and refreshments will be provided, and we are looking for the input of creative permies and plant lovers like you!  The Office is at the SE corner of W. Michigan and Howard St. (in what was formerly a University Bookstore). There’s a parking lot beside and behind the building, with a driveway off West Michigan. No fee or sticker required.

The Gibbs House property is the 150+ year old farmhouse that Western owns.  The land for the farm was turned into the BTR park where Western has it’s engineering college and many tech businesses now call home.  The Gibbs property is being redesigned into a permaculture living and learning showcase where students can get hands on with and experience some of the ideas and concepts around permaculture and future sustainability.  The part that we will be working on is the Western side of the property which we have slated for a food forest and are looking for ideas and inspiration to flush out the design.  Come join us next Friday and learn about what the Office for Sustainability is up to!
